Brian, Fascinating. One slight niggle, the captions at the bottom right; could they be bigger and include the date of the photo. the date that dominates eg 8th August 2004 isn't of any particular interest to me for example. What is of interest is the list of loco numbers and the caption. Hope this helps, but i've really enjoyed looking at them. By the way, I now have the Class 25 sound on an ESU decoder. D.

Brian, was just zooming in on yet another (what a collection!!!) of your fab shots of the WR and noticed that the second 31 looks like 31259 not 296 as captioned... could be that zooming is distorting it a bit - but does look like its '259' ! Thanks for making these available by the way!! Oh, and for your information, I'm doing a stupid little project (in my spare time!) to catalogue all WR photos of trains up to the end of BR days. You've made my life so much more interesting all of a sudden!!! John

Mr.Daniels, I have been admireing your wonderfull photos of your amazing 0 gauge diesel models. The JLTRT look especially good. I myself have taken the plunge with a JLTRT class 40. May I ask wether or not it is possible to add the windows after painting, as the instructions say they must be fitted at an early stage. Looking at some of your photos I notice some of the locos appear to be assembled without the windows being fitted. My chosen prototype is D335 with lights (hopefully). Many thanks. Robin

Brian, still enjoying your many BR WR shots!! Wonderful!! I have a question, I would love to know the rough date of the shot of 31254 on vans at Didcot - with headcode in use, suggesting late/mid 1970's? Or was this a celeb loco at a much later date? Ta! John

Sorry John but this was scanned from a print and I never did write on the back of them where or when I took them. I started work as a secondman at Didcot in June 74 so it was not before that. I am still adding more 37's in the Western section, about another 50 to do!

Llanelli weather at its best- no wonder I left. I can't decide if one of these is a cut-down one or not, or if it's just sitting lower than the other. A few years earlier, Llanelli would often have had four or five 03s stabled at weekends- the BPGV ones and a full-height one which spent the week as yard pilot at Burry Port. There'd often be a few 37s (68ers to us) and often a couple of Immingham Brush Type 4s, which would have been on the Waterston- Albion trains.

Brian Cracking photo of 035. I went on the Welsh Central Liner II a few months ago and am in the process of doing a youtube vid. I was hoping, if possible, that it would be ok for me to use this photo for a few seconds during the video. It's got a 'History repeats itself' theme and I want to show 035 at the same location as 145. I will put a credit for you at the front advertising this site which should help get a few more hits. If you search on youtube for 50051 you will see some of the vids I have made. This latest one is going to be similar to the "Christmas Cracker" but better. If you watch it you can see what I am hoping to achieve. Let me know if this will be ok Thanks Si

Brian. As usual a very fine shot - but are you certain this is 20012? I have seen reports that 20014 was in Glasgow works about the same time and that 20014 was the only 20 to be scrapped whilst still Green. 20012 however was reported as Blue. I would be very interested in any shots where the number is clearer to prove it one way or the other. Your photos may clear it up definitively But please keep the shots coming - they are the best thing on fotopic for me. Regards Geoff

Hi brian. stunning photos of class 40's. absolutely amazing. They should be published. Incredible 'O' gauge models. faultless apart from one observation. I know from being a regular at Didcot that you are a driver. I note that you do have a policy of no 66's on your photos site which is your obvious choice, however as you drive the 66's and you have clearly made a highly detailed example of 66211, how did you manage to get the control panel in the cabs so out of scale ? you stare at one everyday at work ? I have thousands of images of 66's in my own collection and it is clear the RJH kit has got the detail in the cab wrong. One of my friends at Didcot having seen the same images on your site described it as "Wallace and Gromit scale".Please don't feel as though this is a huge criticism; it just stands out as very odd for someone like you who invests such skill and accuracy in modelling locos. your model of 40177 is unbelievably good.

Sorry Brian, Greenford -Chinnor picture 19 is not West Wycombe. The location is within the railway area that would have been called High Wycombe and, if still there, one could have seen HW North box just behind the sadvanced starter. In terms of street geography, you have just passed over Priory Road bridge and are about to run over the Bellfield viaduct (remember the Broad Gauge viaduct down and right of the current bridge?). I attended Priory Road Junior school when the Birminghams where still Kings and Westerns were occasional visitors. 2800 were still running the mineral workings and B1s were on parcels. regards, Graham Beare

Humm Brian, If Greenford - Chinnor 19 is High Wycombe North rather than West Wycombe, then guess what... As far as I can see, this photograph was taken as the engine was passing the remains of West Wycombe station platforms. If one looks carefully at the picture then one can see that the formation is wide enough for four tracks at this point. West Wycombe was somewhat unusual in that only two tracks were ever laid through the GW&GC Jt Rly station although space had been left for two passing loops between the platforms (as per most of the other stations between Northolt Junction and High Wycombe). Saunderton station, which is part of the national network still, had the platforms at the normal separation for two tracks). regards, Graham Beare

A fascinating selection of images. I think this is Swanbourne rather than Winslow. The buildings still exist to this day. Thanks for sharing these pictures. Early 1970's?

Hi Brian Just noticed on the above picture that you didn't have the number of the train engine that was being piloted by 47703. It was in fact 47615. I was on the train from Crewe to bangor! Cheers Simon Travers
